Kensington Health Second Mile Club

“Having a partnership with the students at University of Toronto is one of the best things that has happened to the Second Mile Club. The students bring so much expertise, empathy, kindness and community to our members, helping them to create new friendships, and combat social isolation. Prior to pandemic, we hosted student groups who participated in in-person special events and group activities. Over the pandemic, students supported us virtually, sharing their time and talents in lifesaving ways, by delivering one to one and small group programs, from fitness and mindfulness to coding, games, arts and crafts, or sharing their studies by doing presentations of their own work for constructive feedback. Each moment spent is valuable and makes a profound impact for an individual who has limited connections and is unable to maintain them independently. Our members express that these encounters became the sunny spot of their week and carried them through their darkest times. Our community is incredibly grateful.”

Established in 1937, The Second Mile Club has been providing community support services to the City of Toronto for over 80 years. We offer safe, recreational spaces with accessible, welcoming services for older adults and adults living with disabilities. Available in multiple locations in Toronto, The Second Mile Club has drop-in recreation centers, a community day hospice program, in-home support for clients living at home, and caregiver support.

We are dedicated to enhancing the social, intellectual and physical well-being of the people we serve who want to live at home and continue to thrive in their community.
